On July 13th, President Donald Trump survived a terrifying assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. Just 64 days later, his life was targeted yet again.

Folks, that’s two assassination attempts on President Trump in two months.

According to law enforcement officials, Trump’s U.S. Secret Service detail opened fire at an armed suspect after spotting a rifle poking through the fence at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect, now identified as Ryan Routh, was just one hole away from President Trump. As you may know, Routh fled the scene but was quickly captured after a brave witness shared a photo of his vehicle with local authorities.

While we continue to learn more about this deranged individual, it’s clear that he is radical and dangerous. On Monday, Routh, who has faced dozens of run-ins with law enforcement, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Disturbingly, he laughed on several occasions during his court appearance.

As we wait for additional details about the would-be assassin and the severe security shortfalls that took place again, I’d like to thank all the law enforcement officers who fearlessly prevented an utter catastrophe from taking place. I’m also incredibly thankful for God’s continued hand of protection over President Trump. Please join me in praying for his safety and that of his family and staff.

I’m deeply concerned by the Left’s rhetoric that led to not one but two assassination attempts on President Trump’s life. Just last week, Kamala Harris claimed Trump called for a “bloodbath” if he loses the election. She also said he left us “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.” Unsurprisingly, ABC’s “moderators” did nothing after Kamala Harris spewed these vicious lies. 

Unfortunately, this detestable behavior and rhetoric is nothing new for Democrats. For years, left-wing politicians and pundits alike have erroneously labeled Trump as “Hitler,” “the biggest threat to democracy,” and a “dictator” who “must be stopped.”

This vile, hateful rhetoric has no place in America.

In addition to calling out abhorrent and threatening language, we must swiftly and thoroughly investigate this unsettling matter. Like you, I have serious concerns and questions about this incident, which is why Congress must deliver transparency to the American people. Just as with the first assassination attempt, our nation deserves answers and accountability — not cover ups and obfuscation.

I will certainly have more thoughts and updates to share with you as this moves forward. But for now, I encourage you to join me in praying for President Trump and the future of our great country.

84% support a continuing resolution that extends government funding to March 2025 and includes the SAVE Act.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) repeatedly praised Communist China’s “transparency” and handling of the virus. As you well know, the Chinese Communist Party actively worked to conceal key data, lied to the world about COVID and its origins, and suppressed whistleblowers and doctors who attempted to warn about the outbreak. In response to the WHO’s dishonesty and failures in handling COVID-19, President Trump rightly withdrew the U.S. funding and membership from the WHO. Unsurprisingly, the Biden-Harris Administration rejoined after taking office.

Now, the World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the WHO consisting of 194 member states, is negotiating a broad global accord to define member states’ responsibilities, preparedness, and response in the event of a future pandemic. Alarmingly, this would give the WHO power to dictate future U.S. pandemic policies and response. We simply cannot surrender control of our public health decisions to foreign, unelected WHO bureaucrats.

Thankfully, House Republicans are taking action to protect U.S. sovereignty from the WHO’s power grab. Last week, we passed the No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty Without Senate Approval Act with bipartisan support. This critical legislation requires that any convention or agreement from the World Health Organization’s intergovernmental negotiating body be treated as a treaty, thus requiring ratification by a supermajority of the Senate, as outlined in the Constitution. I proudly voted for this bill, as it makes significant steps toward accountability and ensuring that U.S. pandemic policy is not dictated by the corrupt WHO.

AHI’s 2024 Cutest Exotic Winner: Froth

Last week, the Animal Health Institute (AHI) announced the winners of its 2024 Cutest Pets on Capitol Hill contest. I’m thrilled to announce that the winner of the Cutest Exotic category comes from our very own Ninth District! Froth, an adorable calf born in Hiawassee and raised by Larson, one of our dedicated staff members, took home first place. Sadly, his mom, Latte, passed away shortly after birth. Froth has been bottle-fed ever since, enjoying every bit of the attention he gets from family and strangers alike! We couldn’t be more proud of the love and care Larson and her family have put into raising Froth, who has become a true champion all the way to Capitol Hill. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, and a special shout-out to Froth for representing Northeast Georgia in AHI’s lighthearted competition!

Weakness on the World Stage & Ongoing Funding Fight

Lawmakers are back in Washington to continue working on a government spending solution before federal funds expire on September 30th. As you know, I support a stop-gap funding measure, known as a continuing resolution (CR), that extends government funding to March of 2025 (hopefully all Republican territory) and includes the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

Additionally, we will consider numerous pieces of legislation including: 

• H.R. 7909, the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act: This legislation amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to make illegal aliens who are convicted of, who admit having committed, or who admit committing sex offenses or domestic violence inadmissible and deportable from the United States.
• H.R. 5717, the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act: This critical bill ensures that sanctuary cities, counties, and states that provide benefits to illegal aliens are ineligible for federal funds to assist such migrants.
• H.R. 3724, the End Woke Higher Education Act: This legislation amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to require colleges and universities to put in place First Amendment principles in order to receive funding, as well as prohibits accreditors from requiring schools to adhere to partisan frameworks and ideological litmus tests to receive accreditation.
