GOP senator's mic cut off after appalling racist attack on Arab American Institute director
It is the most Republican thing ever to turn a US Senate hearing on hate and racism into an opportunity to be super racist and extremely hateful. That's exactly what Sen. John Kennedy, the Foghorn Leghorn cosplayer from Louisiana, did when he smeared Arab American Institute Executive Director Maya Berry, accusing her of supporting Hamas and Hezbollah before telling her that she should "hide her head in a bag." Kennedy's tantrum was so out of bounds he had his microphone cut off mid-rant. Yet another absolutely disgraceful show of the crudest kind of Islamophobic racism that has nevertheless been normalized in Washington since 9/11. Berry was testifying to the Senate about the rising tide of anti-Muslim hate in the country, such as the murder of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume in Illinois last October. Folks, if they’re willing to be this racist in public, just imagine what Kennedy and his ilk say behind closed doors.

Tammy Baldwin’s challenger compares birth control to drug trafficking
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: Mitch McConnell’s hand-picked GOP Senate candidate, California banker Eric Hovde, just said in an interview that the morning after pill is an “abortion” and compared it to trafficking “hard narcotics.” Hovde clearly is extremely ignorant of how reproductive healthcare works and doesn’t understand how important it is to the lives of American women. Tammy Baldwin has been a stalwart defender of reproductive rights for her entire career and will fight tirelessly to enshrine Roe v. Wade at the federal level. Will you donate to support her re-election campaign and protect our Senate majority from Eric Hovde?
Pagers explode across Lebanon in Israeli attack targeting Hezbollah members
Ninr people were killed, including a nine-year-old girl, and more than 2,800 people were wounded when a series of explosions rocked the country of Lebanon. It appears that Israeli intelligence planted small amounts of explosive in pagers that were then targeted to members of the Hezbollah militant group and then detonated en masse at 3:30 PM local time on Tuesday, as people shopped for groceries, sat in cafes, and drove cars and motorcycles in the afternoon traffic. One online video showed a man picking through produce at a grocery store when the bag he was carrying at his hip exploded, sending him sprawling to the ground and bystanders running. At overwhelmed hospitals, wounded were rushed in on stretchers, some with missing hands, faces partly blown away, or gaping holes at their hips and legs, according to AP photographers. On a main road in central Beirut, a car door was splattered with blood and the windshield cracked. The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon is among the injured. It is only the latest in the ongoing series of atrocities committed by the state of Israel with the support of the US government, which said that they hadn't been informed about the attack prior to the explosions.

Harris calls Trump's remarks about Haitian immigrants in Springfield a "crying shame"
Vice President Harris sat down with the National Association of Black Journalists, where — unlike Donald Trump — she did not make any mind-numbingly stupid comments about her opponent's race nor spend most of her time complaining about how mean and nasty the journalists were. Instead, Harris gave a powerful condemnation of the MAGA cult leader's recent demonization of Haitian migrants, calling what was being visited on that community a "crying shame." "When you are bestowed with a microphone that is that big, there is a profound responsibility that comes with that, that is an extension of what should not be lost in this moment. This concept of the public trust to then understand what the public trust means. It means that you have been invested with trust to be responsible in the way you use your words, much less how you conduct yourself. And especially when you have been and then seek to be again president of the United States of America," said Harris. She took a less concrete stance on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza that has been ongoing for nearly a year, repeating the tired line that the White House is working around the clock to reach a ceasefire and refusing to name any specific policy changes she might implement in order to achieve her ostensible goal.

Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon failed to disclose a right-wing junket, luxury trips
In what will come as no surprise to a frustrated and exasperated American public, it turns out the the Trump-appointed judge whose interference has brought the MAGA cult leader's stolen classified documents case to a screeching halt has been palling around with right-wing ideologues and failing to disclose it. ProPublica discovered that Cannon failed to report her attendance at a May 2023 banquet honoring the deeply evil Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. It also turns out that she took weeklong trips to the luxurious Sage Lodge in Pray, Montana, for legal colloquiums sponsored by George Mason University, whose legal school is named for Scalia after a $30 million gift from right-wing billionaire Leonard Leo. Just more evidence that Cannon cannot be trusted to rule objectively in this vitally important case and needs to be replaced ASAP.
Hill GOP sets sights on scrapping drug price talks
Once again, Republicans are rolling up their sleeves to tackle the most important issues of the day, like, uh, making pharmaceutical drugs MORE expensive. Multiple high-ranking Republicans told Axios they want to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act's Medicare drug price negotiations next year if they prevail in the upcoming elections. Rep. Buddy Carter, said it was "the worst legislation he's ever witnessed" while Sen. Mike Crapo, whose name accurately describe his political positions, said, "I would try to remove that and replace it, but I can't tell you the exact, you know, what it would be yet." Ahhh, the concept of a plan! Basically, the GOP's Big Pharma donors are making a huge stink about not being able to extort blood money from seniors in need of life-saving medication, and their obedient little weasels in Congress are dutifully moving to make our lives worse once again. It cannot be said enough that literally everything we care about hinges on the outcome of November's election.

GOP-backed House nominee posted a false claim that Jewish people "gave up their firearms to Hitler," spurring the Holocaust
Ok, seriously, how is it that there are so many GOP candidates with batshit bizarro ideas about Adolf f*cking Hitler? Republican Lily Tang Williams, candidate for New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District, posted a meme that falsely claimed that Jews voluntarily disarmed themselves and therefore made themselves vulnerable to the Nazis — outrageous Holocaust revisionism, which, when taken in conjunction with all the rest of the crazy stuff Republicans say about "gun-grabbing Democrats," implies that a similar genocide just might play out in America if liberals get their way. Williams doubled down on her meme when presented with a fact-check, proving that she is both stupid AND stubborn and therefore a slam-dunk, first-round draft pick for the Freedom Caucus should she somehow make her way to Washington.
Trump was asked how he'd lower the price of groceries and gave an absolutely bonkers answer
During a town hall with Arkansas Gov. and professional liar Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trump was asked a very simple, straightforward policy question: What would YOU do to lower grocery prices? Trump's answer did not include the word "groceries," of course. But he did offer up an absolutely head-spinning assemblage of words strung together to form something resembling sentences. The MAGA cult leader said that you have to "start with energy" and promised to get all of our utility bills down 50% with no explanation how he might manage such a feat, then mourned that our farmers are being "decimated" right now, and that he loves the farmers, and he had a big meeting at a beautiful table with the beautiful farmers, and he said they're gonna get you "such a beautiful subsidy," and they said, "Sir, honestly, we don't want a subsidy" almost with tears in their eyes. Tears! Trump also claimed to have many different industries that all do different kinds of things. And for the dismount? China, of course. China has taken America for suckers and are very good negotiators! And so, in closing, to make groceries less expensive, the disgraced ex-president, concluded: "So interest rates, energy, and common sense." Okay, Grandpa, let's get you to bed.
Video shows NYPD officers brutally beating Brooklyn shelter worker
A day after NYPD cops committed a mass shooting on a crowded subway platform in order to apprehend a man who evaded a $2.90 fare — who they claim had a knife but have yet to locate it — new video emerges of NYPD officers brutally assaulting a Brooklyn homeless shelter worker for refusing to let them inside the facility without a warrant. "You wouldn't beat a dog like that... I was worried that my mother was going to have to bury her son," said Jason Salters, the victim of the assault.
