John, Donald Trump and JD Vance’s
racist and xenophobic fear-mongering has gotten out of control.
The Republican presidential and VP candidates have recently pushed
disgusting lies about immigrants, including the debunked and outrageous
conspiracy theory that Haitian immigrants are eating people’s pets,
increasing crime, and spreading disease in Springfield, Ohio. None of
these claims have been substantiated, but the GOP ticket continues to
repeat them on social media, news outlets, and at rallies.
Even the state’s GOP Governor Mike DeWine dispelled this hateful rhetoric,
declaring, “This is a piece of garbage that was simply not true. There’s
no evidence of this at all.” And Vance ultimately admitted on CNN that
he’s “creating stories” to push their MAGA agenda.
But Trump and Vance’s hate speech has already made a negative impact on
the innocent people of Springfield, with spikes in vandalism and violent
threats against immigrant communities, plus school districts and college
campuses shutting down due to bomb threats.
We’ve seen ugly stereotypes and fear-mongering against immigrants
throughout history by right-wing politicians, especially leading up to
fascist administrations. We must come together and stand united against
this dangerous racism and xenophobia.
