Last week, pop megastar Taylor Swift — in a post endorsing Kamala Harris for
president — said this:
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s
presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around
AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.”
Taylor Swift is right.
* Artificial intelligence technology poses a serious threat to individual
people (famous or otherwise), to our democracy, and to truth itself.
* This is not science fiction or paranoia.
* As Taylor Swift herself just experienced, existing AI technology is already
being misused in real-world elections both here in America and elsewhere in
the world.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is working on a rule that would
require disclosure of AI-generated content in political ads on radio and TV.
And with the most consequential election in our lifetimes just around the
corner, we need the FCC to finalize this commonsense rule as quickly as
possible.
Tell the Federal Communications Commission:

Thank you for proposing to require disclosure of AI-generated content in
political ads. Please finalize the rule as quickly as possible. The American
people have a right to know when AI is being used in the political ads they hear
on the radio or see on their televisions. We’re barreling towards elections that
may be distorted — or even decided — by political deepfakes. Yet this is an
entirely avoidable dystopia. No ideology or principle is served by permitting
deepfakes to go undisclosed. The only winner is chaos.

P.S. By the way, you may have heard from us about steps the Federal Election
Commission should take to safeguard our democracy from the threat of political
deepfakes. The Federal Communications Commission has a key role to play as well,
so please take action today even if you’ve taken action before
