Dear John,
Constitution Day may not be America’s most popular holiday, but it is one of our most important.
In his new book, American Covenant ([link removed]) , Yuval Levin provides an incredible defense of the document that has defined our country’s politics since 1787. To celebrate our exceptional form of government, I encourage everyone to take up this remarkable new book.
As I write in my RealClearBooks review ([link removed]) today,
American Covenant should be seen as a key resource for a growing movement. Levin has beautifully described what makes our form of government so exceptional, and provided a realistic assessment of the challenges facing it. He eschews the tiresome partisanship all too common in public discourse today, and people on both sides of the aisle can learn much from his wisdom.
Ultimately, the Constitution only works if citizens are willing to do the business of self-government. Levin’s book will be an encouragement to many laboring to restore our institutions. There is no better way to celebrate Constitution Day than by picking it up, reading it, and finding new ways to join in the extraordinary “American Covenant” it describes.

The Jack Miller Center is an educational venture committed to solving the crisis of uninformed citizenship by teaching America’s founding principles and history. We aim to expand the pipeline of scholars dedicated to teaching America’s founding principles and history, to seed and cultivate college campus centers for the study of the American political tradition, and to advance the teaching of American citizenship in K-12 schools centered around our history and foundational texts.
