At least once a month our team loves to give you opportunities to support impactful nonprofits that are doing important work in our communities.

One of our campaign’s super volunteers, Dawn, is visually impaired. Below is a picture of Dawn with her guide dog Ava, who she received through Guide Dogs for the Blind, which provides services for people in Detroit and across the country.

Ava is 11 years old and has been with Dawn since age 2. When Ava retires as a guide dog, she’ll remain with her family thanks to support from Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Their services are provided at no cost to people who are blind and visually impaired―including a guide dog, orientation and mobility immersion programs, transportation to and from their training sessions including housing during two-week training sessions, youth programs, and more.

Guide dogs are far more than excellent mobility aids: they provide companionship, enhance confidence and independence, and further inclusion.

Ava is Dawn’s second guide dog. Her previous guide dog retired at 8 years old and, thanks to financial support from Guide Dogs for the Blind, remained with his family after his retirement.
