John,
An absolutely staggering headline, from CNN:
Ken Cuccinelli, the former Republican Governor of Virginia, is Donald Trump's acting director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services office.
When asked about the Statue of Liberty and her historic promise, he offered instead disturbing revisionism: changing the words of the poem itself to fit Team Trump's awful immigration cruelties.
Cuccinelli, like Donald Trump and so many in their inner circle, want to reshape our nation in their own, cruel image.
Emma Lazarus' iconic poem they glibly joke about rewriting was first published in 1883. It is etched in stone on our Statue of Liberty as an enduring symbol of what America actually stands for openness, community, and sanctuary.
The words are learned by every child who grows up here or who comes with their families looking for a better life:
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
Donald Trump and his administration want to permanently warp our country and what it means to be an American.
We. Won't. Let. Them.
Courage,
Earl
