Dear friend, Today is the Parkinson’s National Day of Action and we’re joining with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to urge the White House and Congress to take action to protect the public from paraquat, a pesticide linked to an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease. Paraquat has already been banned in more than 70 countries! A National Institutes of Health study found people who sprayed paraquat were twice as likely to develop Parkinson's. Millions of pounds of paraquat are sprayed on American farmland each year, drifting into nearby communities, and putting rural communities at an increased risk of cancer and Parkinson’s disease. More than 70 countries are able to farm successfully without the use of paraquat, so why does the EPA keep putting American farmers at risk? Because for decades Syngenta, the manufacturer of paraquat, tried to mislead regulators at the EPA by plotting to hide scientific evidence about paraquat’s harm. But now scientists and advocates are raising the alarm and forcing the White House and the EPA to finally listen to the science. Will you join us? Thanks for taking action, friend. - EWG Action Alert |
