Resources: Public Charge in the Election Context

The election has public charge on the minds of PIF members and the families they serve. We have materials that may help your organizations reassure concerned families that the public charge policy in effect today removed Trump-era restrictions and is more durable than prior policies:

  • Words that Work – This brief summarizes the results of a two-year opinion research effort aimed at distilling the key messages that mitigate public charge concerns and increase immigrant families’ likelihood to seek help and care.
  • Trump talking points – We worked with our Community Education Working Group members to develop these talking points, aimed at addressing concerns about the Trump presidential candidacy and public charge.
  • Public charge flyers – Accurate, relatively accessible information about public charge policy in 10 languages.
  • Social media samples – Text and images for Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Template Public Charge Presentation – Slides you can modify as needed to insert into community presentations (+ version in Español).

Health: ACA4DACA Campaign Launches in October

Our partners at the National Immigration Law Center, United We Dream, and Young Invincibles are launching a new campaign to help people with DACA learn about health coverage available under new regulations making them eligible under the Affordable Care Act. The ACA4DACA campaign will spread the word via traditional and social media, local education, and other forms of outreach. This effort will last through the end of ACA open enrollment, January 15th. Partners who make the commitment to join will get:

  • Messaging best practices for reaching DACA recipients
  • A social media toolkit
  • Compiled outreach flyers and other resources
  • Webinar with information about how DACA ACA enrollment will work
  • Updates throughout open enrollment
