SUPPORT FOR DEFEND THE GUARD AS PART OF LIBERTARIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE'S
STRATEGIC PLAN
John,
At their August in-person meeting in Miami, the Libertarian National
Committee adopted a new, three-year strategic plan. One of the key
initiatives in this plan is the formal adoption of Defend the Guard as an
issue coalition strategy aimed at influencing public policy.
Defend the Guard is a critical effort focused on preventing the deployment
of National Guard troops into active combat zones without a formal
declaration of war by Congress, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.

The Libertarian Party sees Defend the Guard as a natural extension of
decentralization and a non-interventionist foreign policy. By aligning with
this cause, the LNC plans to build a coalition that can push legislation
through state governments, effectively influencing national policies on
military engagement.
[4]This initiative is a cornerstone of the party’s broader goal to
challenge the entrenched war policies of the U.S. government.
