At AFSP, our mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

As we continue to recognize National Suicide Prevention Month, we want to shed light on the importance of scientific research to the field of suicide prevention. At the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, research informs everything we do, including our education programs, advocacy for life-saving public policies, and support for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Research is the light that leads us through the dark, and toward hope.

Much of what we know today about suicide has been uncovered by AFSP-funded studies. By participating in an Out of the Darkness Community Walk in your area, or by donating directly to AFSP, you help fund new areas of inquiry and propel the national research agenda.
