In Sudan, one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian catastrophes is intensifying every day. Right now:
- 10.7 million people are displaced, including an estimated 255,000 pregnant women
- 25.6 million people are facing acute hunger, including more than 611,000 pregnant women
- Famine has been declared in a displacement camp in the North Darfur region
If the hunger crisis weren’t enough, worsening floods continue to fuel misery across the country. There are reports of latrines and water points being flooded, increasing the risks of waterborne diseases at a time when people are already dying from hunger and illness and the health system is on the verge of collapse.
During this time of crisis, your gifts are making a difference in Sudan:
In addition to this, UNFPA is delivering reproductive health medicines and supplies, deploying roving teams of midwives and medical staff, and supporting mobile clinics in areas of high need where access to health and protection services is limited.
But as needs grow due to flooding and famine, our Sudan appeal is only 33% funded, leaving a major gap to our goal.
We cannot turn away at this critical moment. Will you deliver the gift of lifesaving care to women and girls in Sudan and wherever people are going hungry?
Thank you for being there.
