Don’t miss this rare chance to make twice the impact before National Public Lands Day.
Friend,
From city parks to the towering redwoods, from the air we breathe to the water we drink, our world's vibrancy and health are intertwined with the fate of our public lands. But these lands are under attack. Congress is pushing multiple bills that could strip away vital protections for our public lands, opening them up to fossil fuel, logging, and mining exploitation.
Public lands provide critical benefits: they keep our air and water clean, sequester carbon, and offer protection from extreme weather. They are homes for wildlife, support outdoor economies and jobs, and enhance opportunities for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors.
America faces a crucial challenge: Scientists tell us we need to protect 30% of our lands and waters by 2030. With only 16% of U.S. lands currently protected, it's imperative that we act now. Protecting these lands will not only combat climate change but also prevent drilling and logging from further polluting our environment.
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: By protecting more lands, we can drastically cut down greenhouse gasses. National Forest lands alone store carbon equivalent to seven times our country's annual emissions.
Stop the Extinction Crises: Scientists tell us that to stop the growing loss of wildlife across America we need to protect 30% to provide critical habitat for wildlife to thrive.
Preserve Our Natural Heritage: Our natural heritage is threatened by mining, drilling, and the devastating effects of climate disruption. We must protect our land and water so plants and animals can survive and thrive for generations to come.
