Faith has always been a part of who I am. And I believe the right of the people to elect their leaders is sacrosanct.

When I announced the launch of Fair Fight last November, I did so after deep reflection about how I could best serve our country. Because whether as an elected official or an active citizen, I believe we are required to find solutions to our most intractable problems and to use our skills to expand opportunity for all.

I truly believe voter suppression is the fundamental issue of our time.

That is why today, I announced the launch of Fair Fight 2020, an unprecedented effort to support and fund voter protection programs in 20 battleground states across the country.

We are doing the work to protect the right to vote, but we need to scale our work nationwide to truly take on the insidious efforts to undermine our democracy. The myth of voter fraud has taken on the air of truth, but we must make certain the truth of voter suppression takes on the air of urgency.

What I want you to know is this, friend: when we fight, we win. Thousands of people have signed up to be part of our movement for free and fair elections because they know that this is real and that we must act. And if we do our work, the people will believe that power is theirs for the taking.

In 2020, years of strategic GOP legislative and political efforts to suppress the vote will be exacerbated by foreign interference, Trump's racist rhetoric, and a newly emboldened RNC, threatening our fundamental ability to freely elect our candidates, win the Senate, and defeat Trump.

Our ability to win and govern as Democrats—to expand access to health care, education, and economic opportunity—depends on our ability to protect the people’s voice through the ballot box.

And by directly supporting and funding state parties and Democratic allies, we can help leverage their unique privileges to place observers inside polling locations and ensure free, fair elections for all citizens.
