### **Trump Almost Killed, Feds Consistent At Doing Nothing**

Former President Donald Trump's security is back in the spotlight after surviving a second assassination attempt in two months. The Secret Service spotted the would-be assassin before he could get too close, turning a potentially tragic event into a near miss. Questions are being raised about how the gunman got so close to Trump. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) has suggested providing the Secret Service with more resources or new technology to address security concerns promptly.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe had previously assured Congress that former President Trump, like Vice President Kamala Harris, would receive the same level of protection as the sitting president. However, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw contradicted this, saying, “At this level that he is at right now, he’s not the sitting president.” Bradshaw than added, “If he was, we would have had this entire golf course surrounded. But because he’s not, security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible." Sounds like Trump's security is on a "limited edition" plan.

The Congressional task force is already busy investigating the first assassination attempt on Trump. Now, with this second attempt, they've got even more on their plate. They're requesting a briefing from the Secret Service to figure out how security was handled and how agents responded to the threat. While the task force is relieved that Trump wasn't harmed, they've made it clear they're deeply worried about the rise in political violence.

The suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested after he was found hiding in bushes and aiming a rifle with a scope at Trump from about 400 yards away, according to officials. When he was arrested, Routh had an AK-47-style rifle, backpacks with ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera, which he intended to use for filming something.

Trump was defiant after Sunday's incident, with his campaign sending out messages: "MY RESOLVE IS STRONGER AFTER ANOTHER ATTEMPT ON MY LIFE" and "I WILL NEVER SURRENDER."
