Enough is enough, friend.

Because of gun violence, too many Canadians are dying, families are grieving, and communities are suffering. It must end – and that’s why Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government are announcing an immediate ban on assault-style weapons in Canada.

As the Prime Minister said, assault-style firearms designed for military use have no place in Canada. By removing them from our streets, we will limit the devastating effects of gun-related violence and help make our country safer.

Canadians re-elected our Liberal government last fall with a clear mandate to keep Canadians safe and healthy, and all of our loved ones deserve to live in a society where they can feel safe and secure from gun violence. We’re taking the strong action that Canadians deserve to make our communities safer, while ensuring hunters, farmers, and law-abiding recreational firearms owners are also treated respectfully and fairly.

We know that these weapons are deadly when they fall into the wrong hands, and one Canadian killed by gun violence is one too many.

The fact is, while Liberals want to strengthen Canada’s gun laws, Conservative politicians like Erin O’Toole, Peter MacKay, and Andrew Scheer want to weaken them — and in a minority Parliament, none of our progress can ever be taken for granted.
