Our August Domestic Workers Economic Situation Report* uncovered some alarming realities for Latina domestic workers:

👉🏽 18% of Spanish-speaking domestic workers were jobless in August, a sharp increase from previous months. Many are struggling to find work and provide for their families.
👉🏽 52% of domestic workers who did find jobs earned less than $15 per hour, far below a living wage.
👉🏽 68% of surveyed workers were underemployed, unable to find enough clients to make ends meet.
👉🏽 83% of these workers faced food insecurity in August alone, meaning they often didn’t know where their next meal would come from.
👉🏽 55% of these workers faced housing insecurity in August, meaning they often could not afford to pay their rent or mortgage or may be temporarily staying with friends or family, staying in shelters, or facing homelessness.

Latina domestic workers are not only excluded from basic workplace protections, but they’re also more vulnerable to exploitation due to their immigration status. This double burden is forcing far too many Latina women to live in the shadows, working grueling hours for meager pay, all while facing discrimination and abuse.
