Hi John,

Last week, 600 nurses at the Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children went on a one-day unfair labor practices strike to protest unsafe staffing conditions.

In response, the owner, Hawaii Pacific Health (HPH), locked out the nurses to try to pressure them into accepting management’s offer.

Please send a letter to Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, and ask him to lead by intervening in the lockout and telling business leaders that lockouts have no place in Hawaii.

The Nurses at Kapiʻolani went on strike to protest ongoing bullying and retaliation against nurses who reported unsafe staffing incidents or voiced their concerns for patients’ safety.

Unsafe staffing happens when there are too few qualified nurses on a shift to adequately address the needs of each patient under the care of the nurses. Numerous studies show that unsafe staffing hurts patient care and leads to worse health outcomes, including higher mortality rates.

These nurses have been working without a contract since Dec. 1, 2023, and they refuse to give up on winning a contract that will keep patients and nurses safe.

Now every hospital and employer across the country is watching to see if HPH management will be able to get away with unfairly locking out its employees. These brave nurses are prepared to stand strong for what’s right, and they need your help.

Please send a letter to Gov. Green now.

In Solidarity,
