John — last week, we witnessed the devastating consequences of extreme weather across the country.

The Guardian: “Rapid intensification of Hurricane Francine is a sign of a hotter world”

Axios: “Climate whiplash” helps fuel extreme Western wildfires”

Los Angeles Daily News: “Unhealthy air quality plagues Southern California as wildfires, extreme heat persist”

In Southern California, wildfires are ravaging entire communities. Tens of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate, and dangerous air quality is making it nearly impossible to breathe safely. Meanwhile, record-breaking heat left over 100,000 homes in Los Angeles without power as temperatures soared into the triple digits.

Hurricane Francine slammed Louisiana as a dangerous Category 2 hurricane, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power. The flooding and storm surge have caused widespread damage, and even though the storm quickly weakened, the threat of heavy rain and tornadoes continued across Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

These disasters are not just the result of “bad weather” — they are the direct result of policy choices made by our leaders, who continue to ignore the realities of the climate crisis. This doesn’t have to be our future.

At JanePAC, we know there’s a better way forward by electing bold leaders who will take the climate crisis seriously and push for meaningful climate action to mitigate future harm. The fires in California and the hurricane in Louisiana are reminders that the climate crisis is already here, but it’s not too late to act.

We don’t have to accept these disasters as inevitable — some of them are preventable.

If you want to help be a part of the solution, consider supporting JanePAC’s efforts to elect the leaders we need [[link removed]] — those who will act decisively to protect our communities and our planet from further harm.

Together, we can create a sustainable, livable future.
