Litter Stomp Is Back!

Registration is now open for the 2024 Neighborhood Litter Stomp citywide cleanup! The Neighborhood Litter Stomp is the largest annual fall cleanup hosted by Keep Fort Worth Beautiful and will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 8-11 a.m.

Litter Stomp aims to promote litter source control and community pride. Sign up as an individual or come with a group and help remove litter from public areas in your community. Volunteers are welcome to choose their own location or can choose from one of the five preselected hub locations listed below:

* Carter Park

* North Z Boaz Park

* Arcadia Trail Park

* Chisholm Trail Park
 

Registered volunteers will receive cleaning supplies for the cleanup the day before the event. Fort Worth, we’re excited to welcome 12 new street sweepers, and we need your help to name them! 

The Name the Sweepers Contest is free and open to all Fort Worth residents. Submissions will be accepted through Monday, September 30.

Construction Underway for New Recycling Facility

WM has started construction on a cutting-edge recycling facility in Fort Worth — the WM Fort Worth Recycling Facility.

The facility is expected to cover approximately 110,000 square feet and will be equipped to process up to 144,000 tons per year of recyclable material. This initiative is part of WM's commitment to environmental stewardship and aims to increase access to recycling in North Texas. The advanced technology at the new facility will be used to collect more types of plastics for recycling, improve material quality, and increase the amount of collected recyclable material.

The City of Fort Worth has prioritized sustainability in its long-range planning, and the new recycling facility aligns with these goals. Cody Whittenburg, Director of Environmental Services, emphasized, “Having a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Fort Worth will have numerous positive impacts for the community. The project also serves to highlight the importance of being mindful of recycling, recycling education and long-term sustainability.”

The facility is set to be operational by the end of 2025, with WM planning to host a grand opening ceremony to commemorate its completion.

Fort Worth Advances Clean Energy and Air Quality at Landfill

The Fort Worth City Council has approved a project at the Southeast Landfill to improve air quality and generate clean energy. In partnership with Archaea Energy Services LLC, the City will build a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility to convert landfill gas into a valuable energy resource.

Currently, landfill gas is managed by burning it off. The new facility will capture this gas and convert it into renewable natural gas, providing a cleaner energy option and supporting better air quality. Construction is expected to begin soon, with completion in 18-24 months. The facility could generate up to $5 million annually for the city.

Keep Fort Worth Beautiful Offers Resources at Events Around the City

Last month, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful (KFWB) attended several Back to School events to provide teachers, students, and parents with resources about its School Green Teams program [ [link removed] ]. This program focuses on teaching students about the importance of environmental care through a series of different activities.

The KFWB team also provided supplies for students, such as bookmarks, reusable water bottles, reusable utensil sets, t-shirts, crayons, and more. KFWB provided resources for about 4,320 people across the the attended Back to School events.
