John,
School is back in session! As a former teacher, I know firsthand how exciting these first few weeks are.
I also recognize the needs of our public schools: from infrastructure improvements to classroom resources to teacher support, our schools need our investment to address inequities, provide essential resources, and support our dedicated teachers and staff. |
I want to share with you some of the initiatives I'm championing to strengthen our education system in Connecticut and across the country: -
Improving school infrastructure through the support of Rebuilding America's Schools Act, which would invest $130 billion in public school infrastructure nationwide as well as securing $445 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan to replace lead pipes in Connecticut, including our schools.
- Fully Funding Special Education by advocating for full funding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure every student has access to an equitable education that prepares them for success.
- Expanding Early Childhood Education by introducing the Childcare is Essential Act and supporting provisions in the Build Back Better Act to make childcare more affordable for Connecticut families.
- Supporting Our Teachers: I've introduced a resolution to raise teacher salaries and legislation to improve the educator workforce pipeline, relieve student loan debt for teachers, and preserve educator jobs throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
And along with our Connecticut Democrats, I remain committed to fighting for our students, teachers, and schools. Can you chip in $100, $75, $50, $25, or even $10 to help us continue this work? Together, we can build an education system that provides every child with the opportunity to thrive. Sincerely,
Jahana |
