ACCESS SOCIAL TOOLKIT
CLASP is excited to invite you to a special event marking Disabled Women’s Equal Pay Day on Wednesday, September 18, 2024! This landmark day recognizes the wage inequities faced by disabled women, especially disabled women of color, and how we can join together to make change.
Join us at 2:00 p.m ET/11:00 a.m. PT for a social media storm📱 in partnership with Equal Pay Today, Disability Culture Lab, and many other incredible organizations. Together, we’ll amplify the call for fair pay and equal rights, using the hashtags #DisabledWomensEqualPayDay and #DisabledWomensEPD.
Our focus this year will be on three major policy goals✍🏽:
- Passage of the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act – to eliminate segregated workplaces and subminimum wages.
- Passage of the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act – to end the public benefit eligibility requirements that keep disabled women in poverty.
- Passage of the Home and Community Based Services Access Act – to expand critical funding, allowing disabled women to live and work in their communities.
To help you participate, access the social media toolkit⚙️ in partnership with Equal Pay Today. We hope you’ll join us in this powerful movement!
Join in person on Capitol Hill!
For those in D.C., advocates will be holding a press event at the House Triangle at 2:00 p.m. ET. Livestream📺 will be available for those who can’t attend in person. No RSVP needed!
The Wage Gap for Disabled Women is Unacceptable
Disabled women are typically only paid 50 cents💸 for every dollar paid to nondisabled men. The pay gap is even wider for disabled women of color: for every dollar paid to a white, non-Hispanic nondisabled man:
- Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander disabled women: 55 cents
- American Indian/Alaska Native disabled women: 45 cents
- Black disabled women: 45 cents
- Latina disabled women: 44 cents
