John: If you’re like me, you get tons of emails from candidates asking for money, and you want to know where your cash can go the furthest in putting a candidate over the top. Not all races are the same.
That's why, with only fifty days left until Election Day, I'm asking you to take a few moments to see where things stand in the monumental races North Carolinians can vote on this fall, with special emphasis on where grassroots support can truly swing the race.
Let's go.

A Short Note on Strategic Support
In 2022, I was one of just six candidates to flip a Republican House seat. We won by 3% in an extremely hard-fought race in which polling showed us behind or tied until the very end. The people who gave online truly made a difference in helping put us over the top in a Republican leaning district.
In a race as close as ours was, it was hard watching other candidates get a ton of online support when they had no chance of winning. For example, Marcus Flowers, the guy who ran against Marjorie Taylor Green, raised $16.6 Million dollars for a seat that was very, very safe for Republicans and totally unwinnable for Democrats. At the end of the day, Marjorie Taylor Greene won by a whopping 32%!
Now, consider this: If just 6,000 votes had gone the other way across 5 congressional districts in 2022, Democrats would have won the House Majority. I can guarantee you that if Democrats running in those 50/50 districts had received a bigger piece of that pie, Kevin McCarthy and Mike Johnson would never have been elected Speaker.
So let's take a look at the North Carolina races we can't allow to be overlooked in 2024.

Don Davis for U.S. House
For Congress in North Carolina, there’s just one race likely to be as close as ours was in 2022.
My friend Don Davis is running in a 50/50 district against MAGA extremist Laurie Buckhout. It’s going to be very, very close. Democratic control of the House could come down to this one race in Eastern North Carolina. It’s a district that Joe Biden won by 1% in 2020 and Republican Senator Ted Budd won by 6% in 2022.

The North Carolina Senate
I served two terms in the North Carolina Senate, in which I was one of six Democrats elected to break the Republican supermajority in 2018. Republicans regained that supermajority, which gives them the power to override a Governor's veto, in 2022, and they've used their veto-proof power to gut public education, make it harder to vote, and roll back abortion rights for many North Carolinians.
We just need to flip one seat in the Senate to break the supermajority — and get back our veto power — again. There are six NC Senate races that are going to be extremely competitive, and I think we'll need to win four of those to guarantee that (future) Governor Josh Stein has the power to veto extreme Republican policies.

The North Carolina House
In the North Carolina House, the story is the same. After Tricia Cotham switched parties, Republicans gained a veto-proof supermajority in the chamber that they've used to pass some of the most extreme legislation our state has seen in decades, including a statewide abortion ban.
Our friends at Carolina Forward have identified ten competitive NC House races in which Democrats have the opportunity to flip a seat and break the GOP supermajority:

How We Make a Difference
With only fifty days left in this election, we all have a part to play in this fight for North Carolina's future. Nobody can stay on the sidelines.
One of the best things you can do to help is volunteer with the NC Democratic Party to talk to voters in your community. NC Dems, the DNC, and grassroots allies across the state are putting together a massive ground-game and can help plug you in wherever you're needed most.

As for me, I'll be attending volunteer events across the state, speaking to the media about the Democratic message, lending support to the key races above, and focusing my own grassroots community (that's you) on the places they can have the most impact.
If you'd like to support my own work on behalf of all Democrats, I invite you to make a donation below. Your generosity keeps me on the road and in the media, and I will make sure your donation is put to work wherever it will aid NC Democrats most.
