The second presidential debate is now behind us, and with Trump saying he’s no longer willing to do a third, now seems like a good time to reflect on what we all witnessed.
And what we witnessed isn’t good. Vice President Harris performed excellently, giving the American people concrete answers on the policies she will fight to enact. She showed up with the strength and decorum one would expect of someone seeking to become president of our great nation. Unfortunately, what Trump showed us last Tuesday overshadows Harris’ victory, and proves he’s just as much of a threat as we thought.
Debasing personal attacks on others, racist remarks about immigrants eating pets, and a lack of actual policy ideas other than devastating tariffs and mass deportations show that the man Trump was four years ago is the same man he is today with an extra four years of deterioration. We cannot afford to let this individual into the White House. The risks are far too great.
This all means we need your help now more than ever. With support from Democrats like you, we can keep our efforts going strong, and make sure our candidates have a fighting chance on this year’s ballot. We’ll need all the help and luck we can get this election season, but I’m proud of what Democrats like you have done for this state. We’ve fought for better public education for students, for greater reproductive rights for women, and for an economy that benefits the workers of Iowa at every step of this race.
