Friend, I have HUGE news: In honor of #GivingTuesdayNow, a donor has just issued a $100,000 grant for the League of Conservation Voters.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving that will take place this Tuesday — a chance to support nonprofits in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has wreaked havoc and upended so many lives.
LCV's work has never been more urgent than it is now. The Trump administration has used this pandemic as an opportunity to wage war on the environment and to put disadvantaged communities in even more serious jeopardy. We're pushing back on those attacks and organizing to ensure that COVID-19 relief funds don't get diverted to the oil industry and other polluters — so that help gets to the people who need it most.
We need your help: in order for us to receive the $100,000 grant, we need 1,500 LCV members to donate between now and midnight on #GivingTuesdayNow.
This is a stretch goal for us, but with your help, I hope we can get there.
Please, friend, we cannot afford to miss out on this — especially not now.
Small donations count the same as large ones — even $5 makes a huge difference. Plus, if you start a monthly donation today, it will count 12 times towards our goal. Please, help us reach this ambitious goal. Make a donation to LCV today »
In the midst of this pandemic, Trump's efforts to undermine the environment will
cost lives.
We're fighting back with everything we've got. Here's what we're up against:
- Under cover of the pandemic, the Trump administration has undermined EPA safety measures cutting mercury and other toxic air pollutants. These are pollutants that have already been linked to higher COVID-19 death rates all over the country. Amid a public health crisis, where tens of thousands of people are dying from a virus that directly targets the respiratory system, the Trump administration is actively making it harder for people to breathe. This is quite literally a matter of life and death. Make a gift to LCV today to help us force the EPA to do its job »
- These attacks on the environment disproportionately affect low-income folks and communities of color, who are already more likely to live in areas with high levels of air pollution, and therefore have a higher risk of dying from this virus. This virus is already targeting our most vulnerable communities, and Trump is deliberately making the problem worse. Please, make an emergency gift today. Even $5 makes a huge difference »
- When we stopped Trump's attempt to score bailout money for the oil and gas companies in the first coronavirus relief bill, he turned around and added executives from the top oil producers to his official task force to re-open the country. Now they're trying to change the Main Street program meant to help local mom and pop businesses so huge indebted oil companies can get cheap loans instead. They are still pushing hard — by any means necessary — to get a bailout. You can stop them. Make a donation to LCV today »
- On top of all of this, we must not forget that the most important election of our lives is coming up in a few short months, and it has never been more crucial that we elect environmental leaders who believe in science, at all levels. The environmental movement MUST be ready. The only way that's going to happen is if we continue to organize and mobilize, on ALL fronts. We need YOUR help, and we need it now!
The bottom line: Trump and his goons are
deliberately ignoring science in order to benefit themselves. They know their actions will result in the loss of even more lives.
They don't care.
This is failed leadership. This is despicable. This is a matter of life and death, and we have a responsibility to fight back with everything we've got.
Friend — #GivingTuesdayNow could be a game changer, and will improve our chances of success on ALL fronts. The ONLY way we can get there is with your help.
A gift of any amount counts.
Just $5 makes a huge difference right now. Please, please please — make a donation now »
This magnitude of this crisis, and the forces we are constantly up against, can feel overwhelming at times. #GivingTuesdayNow is an opportunity for us to come together and make a difference for good — no matter how small. Thank you for being there, friend. Your support means the world to us.
Together, we can do anything.
Onward,
Gene Karpinski
