We will provide a legislative update on the 2023 – 2024 biennium. Some of the discussion topics will include religious liberties, the sanctity of life, and predatory mobile gambling. I hope to see you there! | NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award | Recently, I received the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) Minnesota Guardian of Small Business Statue. This event was held at the Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence, and it was attended by M State representatives along with community and business leaders. During the event, I spoke about the necessity for this new law, and how it will help address the state’s CDL testing backlog and expand educational opportunities at institutions within the Minnesota State system. This award was for my efforts to create a funding formula that paved the way for the passage of the EMS emergency aid bill, providing critical funding to Greater Minnesota communities. Ensuring rural Minnesotans continue to have access to lifesaving care is a top priority for me. The emergency medical services (EMS) aid package provides $24 million to support EMS providers who are focused on services in Greater Minnesota. This aid package serves as a lifeline for this critical service, and the funding proposal is transparent and prioritizes rural communities in the most need of help. I will continue to advocate for policies that support the needs of our Greater Minnesota communities. | Addressing the Housing Shortage | Minnesota is currently experiencing a high demand for more housing, especially among first-time homebuyers. Housing First Minnesota recently honored me with their 2024 Housing Leadership Award. I received this award for introducing a key policy to limit cities’ expensive aesthetic requirements on building permits and property developments. Additionally, Housing First Minnesota recognized me for my bipartisan work on legislation to eliminate minimum parking requirements. A key component of this legislation is language I championed to prevent municipalities from imposing expensive and restrictive requirements on housing projects. As a conservative, I believe in property rights, free market principles, and limited government intervention. These values guided my work this session as I fought to protect property owners’ rights and improve housing affordability across Minnesota. Specifically, PFA awarded a project financing package for the city to rehabilitate its sanitary sewer collection system along Trunk Highway 59 and Trunk Highway 108. PFA also approved project financing for the City of Pelican Rapids to replace aging watermains, hydrants and gate valves. Congratulations to the City of Pelican Rapids for securing a significant investment in their water infrastructure. It is crucial that we prioritize our taxpayer dollars on core infrastructure to ensure our communities have the resources they need to thrive. This funding will play a key role in enhancing and maintaining the city’s essential water systems for many years to come.
