Prayer Partner Weekly Update
May 2, 2020

"You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat."

– Isaiah 25:4

Africa & Europe

  • Pray for survivors in Uganda who were living in shelters but had to be sent home to live with relatives because of the government's social distancing requirements for COVID-19. Pray for their safety and protection, that they would have caregivers who are willing and able to keep them safe from violence during the pandemic.

Latin America

  • Pray for God's wisdom over local governments as they consider extending lockdown or re-opening operations. Many of the region's economic and political systems were already fragile, and this virus could push them to a breaking point. Pray for God's protection upon the most vulnerable as these decisions are made on their behalf.

South Asia

  • Pray for safety and security for the survivors of sex trafficking who are now living independently. These young women were doing well before the COVID-19 pandemic, but many are now unable to work and risk falling back into desperate poverty. Pray that IJM will maintain contact with all of the survivors in our network, and that we can leverage food, funds and hygiene goods to keep each survivor safe during this time. Pray specifically for Lara*, a brave survivor leader who has been hit hard. Her mother has an ongoing medical condition, so neither she nor Lara have been able to work or leave the home. We are providing extra support to Lara during this time, but please pray for their stability and hope.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for our prosecution partners in the Philippines who have continued to work relentlessly even during the pandemic. Pray that a communications campaign being run by partners from the Department of Justice will increase awareness about the heightened risk of cybersex trafficking during the lockdown, and inform people on how to report cases. Pray that this partnership would be effective and that there would be swift follow up to calls on the hotline.

  • Pray for Unstoppable, IJM's online prayer event happening on May 16.
