Interpreter cancellation fees update |
|
We last updated you about interpreter cancellation fees in late July. As you might remember, OAH's new interpreter contracts began July 1. Under the new contracts, OAH must pay cancellation fees to interpreters:
- $75 if the proceeding is cancelled less than 5 business days but more than 24 hours before the proceeding.
- The full appointment fee if a proceeding is cancelled less than 24 hours before the proceeding.
Due to OAH's high settlement rate, cancellation fees are necessary to encourage interpreters to take our assignments.
Good progress, and more is possible
From July to August, thanks to you, our interpreter cancellation fees decreased by 25%! This is wonderful progress. We are still receiving many last-minute cancellations, and we think these fees could still be significantly reduced.
Please help
Please report settlements and request continuances as soon as possible and at least 5 days before your proceeding. Your actions will help decrease costs and strengthen our relationship with the professionals who provide this important service for our court.
