Fellow Conservative,

This week, Nancy Pelosi called for $1 trillion in state bailouts. But not all states are in the same financial situation.

This trillion-dollar bailout would reward blue states like California—where Pelosi is from—who have run up big deficits for years. And it would be paid for by their red-state neighbors.

Giving bailout money to Governors Andrew Cuomo (N.Y), Gavin Newsom (Calif.), and Gretchen Whitmer (Mich.) will only incentivize them to do three things:

- Continue spending recklessly.
- Avoid trimming the waste in their state budgets.
- Keep businesses closed.

Red states like Texas, Georgia, and Wyoming have wisely managed their finances, and in many cases, stored away money for a rainy day. It’s no coincidence it’s these same states that are also taking steps to reopen society and keep businesses alive.

Heritage Action, along with many other conservative leaders <[link removed]> in Washington, has been actively opposing Pelosi’s blue state bailout.

As Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson says: <[link removed]>
The voice of the American people is clear... we want to restore the American economy. To do it, state and local governments must begin opening the marketplace safely and without political partisanship. State bailouts and more government handouts will only lead to more debt and will fail to recover the economic health of the nation.
The message to deliver to elected officials is simple: Oppose Bailouts. Open America.

Over 30,000 Americans have already signed the petition to “Open American Society.” <[link removed]> There is still time to add your name <[link removed]> before it’s delivered to America’s governors.
And now for something different. Here’s your Saturday Summary...in Tweets:
We should help states address the coronavirus, and we have:
But state bailouts are more than just a call for neighboring states’ money. Jessica Anderson explains <[link removed]> how bailouts are also about partisan warfare in an election year:
Conservative leaders in Washington oppose bailouts and have asked the President to reject any proposals he receives from Congress.
Heritage Actions Sentinels are leading the fight and have written letters to their newspapers in opposition to state bailouts:
States can stay fiscally strong by returning liberty to the people and opening back up. Join over 30,000 Americans and sign the petition to #ReopenAmerica. <[link removed]>
The American spirit continues to shine through in times of tribulation. Grassroots Director Janae Stracke wrote <[link removed]> about all the kind works of Heritage Action Sentinels:
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support. Your voice and action are needed now more than ever—in Washington, in your state capitals, and in your local communities!
