Friend,

Today marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, celebrating the rich culture and significant contributions made by Latinx people across the country.

This period is also an opportunity to acknowledge the resilience of Latinx communities in their pursuit of racial, civil and economic justice. While significant progress has been made, many still face systemic barriers.

Access to the ballot box continues to be an obstacle. As one of the fastest-growing voting populations in the United States, Latinx individuals are still on the receiving end of many voter suppression laws in the Deep South.

We remain committed to the fight against these attacks. Our campaign, The South’s Got Now | Decidimos, seeks to build power among young voters of color. We are strengthening democracy by registering voters; encouraging their civic participation in local and state issues; and handing out free resources so they can make informed decisions this November and beyond.

The SPLC, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, is also supporting grassroots organizations that are increasing civic participation in Latinx communities ahead of the very critical 2024 presidential election.

There is still much work to do to strengthen civic and voting power, but our fight toward the march for justice is unwavering – and thanks to you, we can champion the inalienable rights of those we serve every day.

From all of us at the SPLC, Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Sincerely,

Southern Poverty Law Center
