[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

I made a promise when I announced I was running for re-election last year to raise money the right way. I wanted to do this in a way you could be proud of as an important part of our movement.

The absurd amounts of money in our politics are a corrosive force, and I refuse to go along with the way Washington says I should raise money. So here are my commitments:

-No PAC money
-No corporate money
-No fake matches
-No fake deadlines
-No fake contents
-No scams, fear tactics or false alarms
*NO GIMMICKS. JUST PEOPLE POWER.*

It’s important to me that we walk the walk and lead by example if we want to change how these things work in Washington.

If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll make a contribution to my re-election. This effort is funded entirely by people. What we accomplish is going to come down to the action as a movement collectively.

A lot of people in Washington will tell you to gum up people’s inboxes with five emails a day and use fake “triple matches,” made-up deadlines (like mid-month) and scare tactics to raise a quick buck.

You probably see all this junk in your inbox already. Sure, it helps campaigns make a quick buck, and it was a risk for us to toss out this tired playbook.

But with trust in politics at an all-time low, you deserve better. It’s a big deal to give your time or money to a campaign. Treating this like a transactional relationship is not how we build long-term movements that can create lasting change.

The truth is this was a big risk. But I put my trust in you and this movement we’ve built together to have my back.

My bet is that by doing this the right way then together we can show my colleagues that there’s a better model.

Will you please consider making a contribution to my re-election today? My decision to reject PAC and corporate money alone is likely leaving millions of dollars on the table. But it’s worth it to me to make sure you know that I always put people first.

I hope what we’re doing here resonates with you. Each donation helps us send a powerful message that we can run our campaigns a different way — a way you can be proud to be part of.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
