Point to a population connection, and many immediately try to change the subject: What about overconsumption? What about corporate polluters? What about microplastics? All that and much, much more is true. But the stubborn refusal to acknowledge overpopulation doesn’t change the facts of life on our crowded planet.
Population pressures pose grave threats to our health and environment. And yet, by ensuring access to safe and effective reproductive health care for all, we can forge a more sustainable future on a livable planet.
When women are educated, have access to reproductive health services, and have true reproductive autonomy, the vast majority choose smaller families. And we have scientific data that investment in family planning is the single most cost-effective way to meet the twin challenges of population growth and the climate crisis.
