Reporting from USA Today indicates that Donald Trump’s campaign believes it has a real chance this November at winning Virginia’s prized 13 Electoral College votes.

According to the report, his optimism is based in reality: 

“Trump’s team has its reasons to be optimistic — or at least reasons to suggest it should be in Virginia. In the last statewide election, voters picked Republican Glenn Youngkin, a relative newcomer to politics, as their governor over a popular Democrat with deep roots in the party.” —USA Today, September 2024

While some political pundits are giving Kamala Harris the edge in the upcoming election, Trump is looking to replicate Youngkin’s 2021 ‘surprise’ win with a victory of his own in 2024. 

And so is Republican Senate candidate Hung Cao — the candidate running to unseat Tim Kaine in November.
