John — Donald Trump made a lot of frankly unhinged claims during the debate the other night, but there’s one thing we can’t stop thinking about… When Trump was asked about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, he made an argument politicians frequently repeat: He didn’t take away abortion rights. He just left it to the states to decide.
Trump and his far-right allies are well aware that Republican control over state legislatures gives them the opportunity to further their national goals while seeming to keep their hands clean.
Their next target? State-level climate protections… but we can fight back.
We’re stepping in to elect state-level champions who will take bold action for our planet, our democracy, and our future. Will you chip in toward our $70,000 end-of-quarter goal to help us keep up the fight? [[link removed]]
The good news is that there are some states stepping up on critical issues when the federal government won’t.
Take gun violence prevention, for example. While Congress stalls, states like New York have passed stronger gun safety laws than anything we’ve seen from Washington. On climate policy, California is setting a national example by aggressively phasing out gas-powered vehicles and prohibiting new oil wells from drilling near sensitive areas like homes and schools.
These transformative policies are coming from state legislatures, where the real fight for our climate future is unfolding.
But here’s the problem: Republicans spent the last two decades quietly taking control of statehouses while no one else was paying attention.
During the Obama presidency alone, Republicans flipped nearly 1,000 state legislative seats and governor offices. They used that power to strip away reproductive rights, gut environmental protections, and give corporate interests free rein. Now they’re gearing up to flip even more seats and double down on their self-serving agenda.
But we’re not asleep at the wheel anymore, John. At JanePAC, we’re building climate caucuses in statehouses around the country that are ready to take bold action when Congress won’t. We’re backing candidates in California, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Texas to challenge fossil fuel interests and secure climate action where it matters most.
This is a rallying call for all of us to take action, John. Together, we can stop the GOP’s reckless agenda at the state level and elect leaders who will protect our environment and our rights. With our quarterly deadline right around the corner, can you chip in today to help us fight back and elect climate champions across the country? [[link removed]]
