Hi John.

I understand many people are having a difficult time with higher prices. That’s why I’ve made lowering costs for Kansans a top priority.

So today, I’m sharing a new update on some of my latest work to build an economy that works for everyone.

Remember, if you need any resources to help lower your costs, please visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts. You can find resources for groceries, housing, health care, gas, and more.

Lowering the Cost of Child Care for Families

It’s important to me to listen to Kansans and learn more about how they’re making it in our economy. That’s why I was glad to recently accompany a family in Shawnee when picking up their children from day care. Their child care costs are their family’s largest expense.

I’m supporting a bipartisan bill to implement child care tax cuts to help middle class families. Click here to learn more.

Families like the Zigtemas need affordable and quality child care. That’s why I was glad to introduce the bipartisan Affordable Childcare Act alongside my colleague Representative Marc Molinaro from New York earlier this year.

Growing up with a single mom, I know how much a little extra money in the bank account can mean. Child care is essential not only for giving kids like Eli and Colby Zigtema a strong start, but also for allowing parents to earn a living and support their families.

Lowering Energy Bills for Kansans

I also recently visited a family in Kansas City, Kansas to see firsthand how new federal tax credits are helping Kansans lower their utility bills.

Kansans who make qualified energy-efficient improvements to their homes may qualify for certain tax credits. These new tax breaks have already saved 3.4 million American families more than $8 billion.

The new law is helping families to lower their energy bills and ensure more sustainable households. I encourage everyone to explore these opportunities.

These tax breaks are making a real difference for Kansas families by reducing utility costs and encouraging energy-efficient home improvements. They provide meaningful savings that can help ease the financial burden on hardworking Kansans.

Lowering Grocery Prices by Boosting Competition

I’m pleased to share the U.S. Department of Agriculture is taking new steps to support Kansas agriculture. Specifically, it means boosting our independent meat and poultry processing capacity to lower food costs.

I was glad to help pass the law that made these new resources possible.

I’ve made it a priority to listen to Kansas agricultural producers. I’m committed to working with both Republicans and Democrats to support Kansas’s agricultural economy.

The law I voted for, the American Rescue Plan, is helping to strengthen our agricultural supply chains. That includes spurring competition to help lower costs.

Fair competition gives families more choices to shop for the best bargains and stops big corporations from taking advantage of folks.

My mom raised my brothers and me on her own. We didn’t have much, but we worked hard. I believe all Kansans should have the same opportunities to get ahead that we did. But I know that’s harder these days with higher costs on child care, groceries, and more.

That’s why I’m focused on concrete and bipartisan solutions to build an economy that works for everyone. As that work continues, please know my team and I are here to help however we can.

It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions, always feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
