Recovering After Hurricane Francine

As we begin to understand the scope and scale of the damage caused by Hurricane Francine, I joined our entire Congressional delegation in u rging President Biden to approve Governor Jeff Landry’s request for an expedited major disaster declaration.

It is clear that there is widespread impact across South Louisiana. On Friday, following a flyover of Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes to view the damage, I delivered meals with volunteers and talked to residents about their recovery needs. Joined by Governor Landry, Congressman Clay Higgins, Terrebonne Parish President Jason Bergeron, and other local officials, we discussed how we can all work together to ensure the people of Louisiana have the resources we need to recover.

Demanding Answers on Imported Shrimp

Louisiana shrimpers make every effort to provide their world-class product in a safe and sustainable way. Meanwhile, only a very small percentage of foreign seafood is inspected before it reaches our dinner tables. To address this alarming issue, I've codified language into law cracking down on unsafe foreign shrimp flooding U.S. markets.

This week, I sent a letter asking the FDA exactly how they are complying with federal law to ensure that imported shrimp is appropriately regulated, ensuring a level playing field for our local shrimp industry and safety for consumers.

Taking Action Against China

Protecting our nation’s food and drug supply and defending America’s food security is critical to safeguarding Americans’ health and well-being. Yet, in the past several years, America’s food security has come under threat from adversaries abroad, like China, as they have increased their purchasing of American farmland.

We cannot allow foreign adversaries to gain control over America’s farmland and food supply, or grab land near U.S. military installations. This week, I voted in support of several bills to counter Chinese aggression, including a prohibition on the CCP buying up our farmland, and I joined Fox Business Network's The Bottom Line to discuss our agenda for the month.
