When I worked for Planned Parenthood, I saw how difficult it was for pregnant people in red states to access affordable reproductive care.
Now, with Trump’s Supreme Court ripping away the protections of Roe v. Wade, the situation is even more dire. Just look at what’s going on in Louisiana:
Misoprostol is an essential part of reproductive health care. It’s used in emergencies like postpartum hemorrhaging, miscarriage treatment, labor induction, and intrauterine device (IUD) insertion.
But because misoprostol can also be used in abortion care, right-wing legislators in Louisiana have declared it a “controlled dangerous substance,” putting up extra barriers for doctors who need it in life-or-death situations.
The situation is even worse for rural and remote hospitals without in-house pharmacies, particularly on nights and weekends.
“I’ve been [at a rural hospital] trying to get a simple headache medication released, and it’s taken 45 minutes, an OB-GYN in New Orleans told the Louisiana Illuminator, “In these [hemorrhage] situations, you don’t have 45 minutes.”
It’s a pattern I saw over and over again at Planned Parenthood: Anti-abortion politicians passing restrictions that help no one, put women’s lives in danger and make doctors’ jobs harder.
Please join me and add your name if you agree: We must protect access to misoprostol and make sure doctors have every tool available to save women’s lives!

One of my top priorities as your next member of Congress will be to restore reproductive freedom at the federal level and end the under-reported healthcare crisis ripping through states like Louisiana.
