Here’s a fact you might not know: There are about 48 million unpaid caregivers in the United States. Nine out of ten of them are caring for a relative.
Whether it’s caring for a parent, raising a child, or supporting a loved one with a disability, so many of us are part of the invisible care economy.
Yet, while millions give their time and energy to provide this essential care, the care systems in America remain broken. Caught at the epicenter of this dysfunctional system are domestic workers—the very people who make it possible for many of us to care for our families and maintain our lives.
At NDWA, we believe it’s time to change that. Our movement is fighting for policies that protect and uplift the work of caregivers—both paid and unpaid. From advocating for universal paid family leave to supporting a comprehensive care infrastructure, we’re working to ensure that every caregiver and domestic worker is treated with dignity and respect and that families can get the care they desperately need.
Care is not a luxury; it’s the backbone of our society. That’s why we are pushing for stronger protections and better wages for the domestic workers who provide the professional care that families depend on, and why we continue to advocate for policies that recognize caregiving as the essential work it is.

Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
