Over the past two decades, our understanding of autism and the landscape of services and supports for people with autism has fundamentally changed, in large part due to the Autism CARES Act. This bill not only continues countless autism programs that advance supports for people with autism but will for the first time provide us with a transparent plan on the strategic direction of research and resources needed to improve outcomes for autistic people.
The Autism CARES Act of 2024 also includes new enhancements that address challenges related to:
- Older and aging autistic adults;
- Autistic people who are non-speaking or may need additional communication support;
- Autistic individuals who require 24-hour care and may struggle with harmful or self-injurious behaviors; and
- Families encountering provider shortages of developmental behavioral pediatricians.
You can help secure $2 billion over the next 5 years for federal autism programs by advocating with us for the Autism CARES Act. Learn more at autismspeaks.org/AutismCARES and contact Congress today!
