John, day after day, we continue to witness a genocide against Palestinians unfold before our eyes.
The Israeli government is not only keeping up its indiscriminate assault on Gaza — leaving more than 40,000 people dead, including 14,000 children, and damaging $18.5 billion of critical infrastructure — but it is also breaking further international law by invading the West Bank, where Israeli soldiers have used children as human shields and killed at least 39 Palestinians in less than 10 days.
It’s unconscionable.
As Justice Democrats’ Rep. Rashida Tlaib — the only Palestinian American in Congress — pointed out:
“The Israeli government has launched the largest invasion of the West Bank in decades — with fighter jets, drones, armored vehicles, and ground forces. The goal has always been the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.”
While the Israeli military drastically escalates conflict in the West Bank, in Gaza they’ve recently bombed another shelter for displaced people, killed a young child rollerblading in a targeted airstrike, and opened fire on a World Food Program aid vehicle.
None of this will end until Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agrees to a permanent ceasefire deal, which he has so far refused to do, even against the protests of Israeli citizens and hostages’ family members.
Though President Biden claims he is doing everything he can to push a ceasefire deal through, his words remain hollow as long as the United States continues to funnel billions of dollars in weapons and bombs to aid Israel in carrying out its crimes against humanity.
It’s beyond time for the Democratic Party and our Democratic administration in the White House to stand on the right side of history and come out strongly in support of both a permanent ceasefire and an immediate arms embargo.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
