We hope you had a great week as we start to usher in the fall season. This Wednesday marked the 23rd anniversary of the attacks on September 11th, 2001. Every year, we join in remembering those lost, including 750 New Jerseyans. We also honor the actions of selfless heroes who stopped at nothing to help others. It is forever-important that we hold onto their memories as we continue forward, letting the emotion of this day guide our mission to serve our local communities and state.

Welcoming New Jersey Veterans to Washington

On Wednesday, Congressman Kim met with representatives from the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Capitol to discuss our continued commitment and shared work to serve veterans and their families in New Jersey and around the country. We are passionate about working to ensure they and our entire military community receive the benefits they have earned.

Just last month, the Congressman was honored to receive the NJVFW’s Legislator of the Year Award!

Connecting Community Needs to Federal Block Grants

Our office is proud to help our local community access federal grant opportunities. Earlier this week, we hosted a webinar covering the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program that expands housing and promotes economic development. The conversation focused on access in Burlington and Monmouth Counties since CDBG grants are currently not available in Mercer County. Congressman Kim Signs Petition to Force Vote on Social Security Fairness Act

Right now, public servants like teachers and first responders are denied the full Social Security benefits they earned.

Congressman Kim took action this week to force a vote on the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act to fix this wrong and make sure they get the benefits they deserve.

Three Decades of the Violence Against Women Act

30 years ago today, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) took a historic step to support survivors and protect lives. In 2022, Congressman Kim helped build off its promise by reauthorizing VAWA.

The work is not over. Through expanded resources and care to passing red flag laws, we can and will do more.

Commemorating World Suicide Prevention Day

Every American should have a place to turn to for the mental healthcare they need, no matter the cost. In Congress, we continue to prioritize efforts to expand access to comprehensive and affordable resources and services. This week, we joined in recognizing World Suicide Prevention Day to help spread the word about current resources, including the 9-8-8 hotline.

This week, we also applauded the Biden administration’s new rule aimed at expanding access to mental healthcare by making sure mental health and substance use disorder care on private insurance plans are covered the same as physical health benefits. It is a critical step toward making sure Americans can always access the affordable and comprehensive care and services they need and deserve.

On September 25th at 12 PM, our office will be hosting a webinar about combating bullying and what resources are available right now in our local community for someone impacted by bullying. With a panel of experts, we will dive into how to support children who are experiencing, witnessing, or may be causing bullying.
