Friends, I was honored this week to speak at the EMILYs List conference. I’ve been proud to be endorsed by EMILYs list both in 2018 and again in 2024. But unlike 2018 when the stage was filled with women jumping up to flip seats, this year, I stood for California alone.

Out of a State of forty million people, I’m the only California woman flipping a competitive Congressional seat. I’m the only woman challenging MAGA extremists head on — and I’m counting on you to help me win this. [ [link removed] ]

In 2018, California had 20 democratic women speaking for us in Congress, today we are down to 15 and next year even fewer — out of five seats currently held by retiring CA women, four are being replaced by men.

I’m no stranger to being the only woman in the room — I spent my career in National Security and more recently wildfire resilience. It taught me to speak up and stand up for my ideas even in the face of doubters and condescension. It taught me to build coalitions around an idea so even when small minded men weren’t able to accept the idea from a woman, we still got it done.

But when I decided to run for Congress in 2018, for the first time I wasn’t the only woman in the room. I stood in a sea of pink hats of women marching to demand that our rights be protected and our voices heard.

I know it feels like we’ve been losing ground since then — reproductive freedom is in peril, basic health care for women is being stripped away and the next generation of MAGA extremists like Kevin Kiley and JD Vance have no shame declaring that a woman’s only role in our country is child rearing (even post-menopausal women).

If Kevin Kiley, MAGA champion that Trump says he is, gets re-elected, he will drive through a national abortion ban. Even in a state like California, that means reproductive rights are at risk.

Ladies, we have to stop him. We are the heroes we are waiting for! Will you join EMILY’s List and help make sure that doesn’t happen? [ [link removed] ]

I have been so grateful for the steadfast support of organizations like EMILYs list that uplift, empower and support women candidates like me, knowing how important it is to elect women to Congress who will deliver reproductive freedom, protect our rights, and drive solutions.

Remember, EMILYs list’s name is Early Money is Like Yeast – I’m so grateful to all of the amazing women who germinated this campaign with early investments. Now it’s time to donate again — go all in, because the next generation of women are counting on us to win!
