A New Wave of Hate: The Anti-Immigrant Legislative Boom Since 2020

Stand Against the Surge of Anti-Immigrant Legislation
Dear LULAC Members and Supporters,
Anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise, and the numbers speak for themselves. Our LULAC National Institute’s research and policy team has just released a report titled "A New Wave of Hate: The Anti-Immigrant Legislative Boom Since 2020." The findings are stark—since 2020, there’s been a 357% increase in anti-immigrant legislative proposals, with 233 bills introduced this year alone. These proposals target our Latino communities, criminalizing immigrants, attacking sanctuary policies, and undermining the rights of undocumented workers.
States like Texas and Florida are leading the way in pushing these harmful laws. Yet, the contributions of Latinos are undeniable. Our communities contribute more than $3.6 trillion to the U.S. economy annually, including over $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes. These bills not only hurt people—they hurt our nation as a whole.
This report is a wake-up call. We must mobilize, fight back, and protect the rights of immigrants and Latinos across the country.
Together, we have the power to make a real impact. Check out the full report here: A New Wave of Hate and read this coverage by Camilo Montoya-Galvez, an award-winning reporter covering immigration, CBS News for more details: CBS News Article.
Very sincerely,

Juan Proaño LULAC CEO
