John -
Environmental and Indigenous rights activist Brandon Lee was harassed,
threatened, and left paralyzed when the Filipino military shot him in
2019. Now, he’s coming to the D.C. area for a series of events next week
calling for justice and accountability in the Philippines.
350 is supporting our friends from the International Coalition for Human
Rights in the Philippines^1 on this leg of Brandon’s speaking tour.
We would love to see as many supporters as possible at the Just and
Lasting Peace in the Philippines Conference on Saturday, September 21st
starting at noon. [ [link removed] ]RSVP here to join →

This conference will be held on the 52nd anniversary of the declaration of
martial law in the Philippines in 1972, which led to almost two decades of
dictatorship until the Filipino people ousted Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in
1986. Today, another Marcos is back in the presidential palace after
coming to power in an election characterized by cheating, violence, and
fraud.
The people’s fight continues to expose the crimes and distortions of
history by the Marcos Jr. regime, and Brandon’s work is a key part of
that. He was shot by a U.S.-trained and funded Filipino military force for
defending the Indigenous peoples’ lands from extractive mining.
What happened to Brandon is a perfect example of the intersection of
fighting fascism and environmental injustice while pushing for an urgent
renewable energy transition.
Now, you have the chance to hear Brandon’s story^2 firsthand and learn
more about how you can get involved in this crucial fight.
[ [link removed] ]RSVP to the political conference by the September 16th deadline to be
connected with land defenders and grassroots social movements from the
Philippines and beyond.
