During the first week of September, I was home for our district work period and happy to meet so many of you at local events happening throughout Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
This week, Congress is back in session and voting on issues to make your lives better and put people over politics. Today, September 13, 2024, we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). This bill is a piece of landmark legislation aimed at combating domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. VAWA makes it possible for local organizations such as Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center, Safe Alliance, and the Jamie Kimble Foundation for Courage to provide services to the community. As we shared earlier this year, these critical resources will exist under one roof at the soon-to-be-built Umbrella Center facility to support survivors of domestic violence.
