Hey everyone,

For weeks, the City Council has been pushing to open streets across New York City to pedestrians, giving New Yorkers space to head outside while observing the public health guidelines keeping us all safe.

And now, I have some good news to share with you: the mayor agrees. We’re going to open up 100 miles of New York City streets to pedestrians and provide our community with the open space it needs right now.

We’re starting on Monday with streets in and around parks, and will be expanding the number of open streets in the days ahead.

I’ll keep sharing live updates on Twitter as we open more streets, and you can find more details about the first set of open streets there.

Thanks for all you’re doing for our city. I will keep you updated as the City Council continues to find ways to respond to this crisis.
