New Democrat Coalition Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Norma J. Torres (CA-35) issued a statement following the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) announcement of updated regulations to expedite the production of manufactured housing and lower housing costs:

Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) led a bipartisan group of over 80 lawmakers demanding action from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to help crack down on Organized Retail Crime (ORC). The letter calls for DHS to provide immediate updates to Congress on their efforts to address this violent crime, specifically their progress on establishing an organized retail crime coordination center. Lee also leads the bipartisan Combating Organized Retail Crime Act in the House, which would make ORC a federal crime in addition to legally requiring an ORC Coordination Center and DHS progress updates to Congress.

Kilmer-led Congressional Modernization Bills Pass the House
Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06) announced two bills he led through the House Administration Committee's Modernization Subcommittee passed the United States House of Representatives by voice vote this week. The first bill, H.R. 7592, would remove the statutory requirement to print hardbound copies of the Constitution Annotated (CONAN). Replacing the hardbound version of CONAN requirement with an existing digital version will save taxpayer dollars and eliminate inefficient use of Congressional Research Service (CRS) staff time so they can better support the more pressing work of Congress. The second bill, H.R. 7593, the Modernizing CRS Access to Data Act, aims to address issues regarding CRS’ access to federal data. When CRS’ statute, was developed in the 1970s, it stated that federal agencies need to comply with data requests from Congress to serve congressional committees, due to the committee-centric nature of Congress back then.
Pettersen Introduces Bill to Help Tribes, Rural Communities Access Federal Funding for Water Conservation
Representatives Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) and Juan Ciscomani and Senators John Hickenlooper and Jerry Moran introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Water Project Navigators Act (H.R. 9506). The bill would establish a new program at the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) to fund “navigator” positions with states, Tribes, and rural communities to boost capacity for developing, funding, and implementing water management and conservation projects.
Pappas Introduces Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen Security Coordination at Northern Border
Representatives Chris Pappas (NH-01), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), and Marc Molinaro (NY-19) introduced the Improving Coordination for the Northern Border Act (H.R. 9481). This bipartisan legislation would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to establish the Northern Border Coordination Center to strengthen implementation and coordination of the Northern Border Strategy, which includes training, information sharing, intelligence, and engagement with federal, state, Tribal, local, and international government partners.
Slotkin Bill Would Ban Chinese Connected Vehicles from U.S. Military Bases
Representative Elissa Slotkin (MI-07) will introduce legislation this week to protect U.S. military installations from threats posed by new, advanced vehicles. The Protecting Military Bases from Connected Vehicles of Concern Act (H.R. 9454) would bar connected vehicles built by companies from countries of concern, such as China, from U.S. military bases.
