City Newsletter Correction: Short-Term Rental Ordinance
The September-October issue of Heights Highlights is arriving in Mendota Heights mailboxes soon. Featured in this issue is an article about the City Council’s consideration of a new ordinance regulating short-term rentals in our community.
The article incorrectly states the proposed short-term rental regulations take effect Sept. 17, 2004. Instead, the Council will consider the new ordinance for approval at its Sept. 17 meeting and, if approved, the new regulations take effect immediately.
Find more information and review the proposed ordinance on the City website.

Tree of the Month: Basswood (Linden)
The Basswood tree is a native deciduous overstory tree species in the Malvadeae family. It has a full, dome shape, growing to a mature height of 50-80 feet, with simple, alternate heart-shaped leaves. The Basswood can tolerate shade, but also grows well in full sun, and can tolerate a variety on soil types including clay, alkaline, and occasional drought, though it prefers moist, well-drained soil.
The Basswood tree was once prevalent as part of the native maple-basswood forest community throughout the eastern United States. It makes up approximately 2.5% of the tree canopy in Mendota Heights.
