Hi John,
Today, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State's school buildings will remain closed for the reminder of the school year. Districts are still grappling with the challenges of remote learning, grades and plans to reopen schools in September 2020 — all with no new aid from New York State.
In fact, Governor Cuomo has been threatening to cut state funding for education by 20 percent. The enacted budget gave the Governor the power to make mid year budget adjustments. April 30th marked the end of the first budget adjustment measurement period. No new cuts have been announced, but that hasn’t stopped the Governor's threats to schools. The Governor’s Division of Budget director warned that he may announce cuts sometime between May 1st- May 15th.
Parents from around the state recorded a video message to Governor Cuomo.

Districts can’t afford to lose a single dollar from their budgets now. Governor Cuomo must stop the threats to school districts and instead look for strategic ways to invest in children and their education during this crisis. Send an email to Governor Cuomo now!
New York State can immediately borrow money from the federal government at near-zero interest rates to provide cash needed to keep our schools funded.
The Governor can raise revenue with new tax brackets for billionaires and millionaires. New York is home to some of the wealthiest people in the world. But our state also has some of the worst inequality in the nation, including our spending on public education. Not only can our the Governor raise revenue here in New York — he has a moral obligation to do so.
Congress can act quickly to provide additional relief to New York in the form of a fourth stimulus package that will ensure that the state cannot make additional cuts and allow the federal dollars to be the relief it is intended to be.
We must stay vigilant and ready to stand up and fight for our children, our schools, and our communities. News outlets are reporting the ultra wealthy saw their wealth increase by 10% since the pandemic hit.
You can let the governor know that you won’t stand by and let him gut our children’s future while giving a pass to the ultra wealthy. Click here to email Governor Cuomo now.
In solidarity,
