This year marks the 30th anniversary of two landmark laws that have protected our communities and saved lives: the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

These laws increased the safety and well-being of families nationwide. Yet gun violence remains a public health crisis.

In Congress, Lauren is committed to advocating and voting for laws that protect our communities from the gun violence epidemic, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, and the Protecting Our Kids Act.

Every year, Lauren also champions the reauthorization of VAWA, ensuring vital resources and protections for survivors of domestic violence, particularly in marginalized communities. As a cosponsor of VAWA, she is deeply dedicated to making sure every spouse, parent, and child is protected from domestic violence.

Despite these successes, extremist politicians like JD Vance have dismissed gun violence as “a fact of life.” The GOP, in lockstep with the gun lobby, has repeatedly blocked lifesaving gun safety measures and even voted against extending VAWA. Their MAGA agenda disregards the countless lives shattered by gun violence and ignores the potential to make our communities safer. Lauren knows we can do better.
